How to use this site

The following sections will, depending on your reasons for coming to this site, help you navigate this website.  

Home

You will see the

• About Us section is designed to give you an overarching view of the Company, the mission and its people.
• Membership: How to Join section is designed to facilitate the creation of specific types of relationships (such as a Member or as an Intern) that you can chose to have with Heartland Angels.
• Entrepreneurs: Submitting Your Company section is designed to lead companies through the submission, selection, presentation and review processes that Heartland uses.
• Resources Available section defines the many ways in which individuals and organizations can assist 1) Heartland Angels’ operation (e.g., as an Advisor or as a Sponsor) and 2) the various companies and people that come to Heartland Angels for help (e.g., as a Consultant or a Mentor).  Although an individual may be providing professional services within a firm, the relationships established are only with that individual and not his/her firm. This section also provides links to other sources of information for the investor and the entrepreneur.
• In the Media section is designed to provide information and opinions about topics that are or have been newsworthy.

• News section is designed to provide information about 1) Heartland’s activities and programs, 2) its portfolio companies and 3) its sponsors and sponsorship programs. Heartland Angels' blog will be in this section.

Registering

When you Register, you are providing your name, user name, your e-mail address and a password.  When you provide this information and save it, you will receive an e-mail sent to the address in your registration. You have to confirm that you received this e-mail. Once this is done, you will be considered a "guest" on the site after you log in (see below).

After you register and log in, you will be part of our Community and you will see this section on the left of the website.

Community

This section is designed bring together guests and members of Heartland to foster dialogue and discovery.

• Newsletter Sign-up section enables you to receive the newsletters that Heartland Angels publishes.  The newsletter is a quarterly, electronic publication which includes feature articles on heartland portfolio companies and companies of interest, columns by legal and investment professionals and other subject matter experts and other articles related to angel investing and the Chicago entrepreneurship community.

• Committee Members section enables members to see who is working on the various operational committees and their roles.  The committees are listed in the About Us sub-tab.
• Private Messaging section enables you to communicate with your select friends and special interest groups. 
• Heartland Blogs section is designed to deal with topics of general interest. 
• Discussion Groups section is designed to deal with companies that Heartland receives for review and is accessible to Advisors (see the Resources Available sub-tab for more information).

• My Home section will provide quick links to many parts of the site.  Also you will be able to access the event sign up sub-tab.  Event Sign-up section will enable you (and a guest) to confirm or decline acceptance to attend upcoming events, such as company presentations. Invitation Request section enables you to request placement on one or more of our activities invitations lists.
• My Details section will enable you to change your password and e-mail address if you need to do so.

My Heartland

In this section, you will presented menus that allow you to change your details and see that status of your submissions:

• My Home section enable quick links to other parts of the web site. You will also be able to access the event sign up sub-tab.  The Event Sign-up section will enable you and a guest to confirm or decline acceptance to attend upcoming events, such as a company presentation.  Invitation Request section enables you to request placement on one or more of our activities invitations lists.

• My Details section will enable you to change your password and e-mail address if you need to do so.  Status of Your Member or Resource Application section enables you to edit your personal membership and resource profiles.  Status of Your Company Submission section enables you to check the status of any business opportunities you may have submitted for review by the investment committee as well as to edit any submission, e.g., to add a business plan or financial spreadsheet to the review process.

Members of Heartland have these additional menus
 

• Companies Being Reviewed section enables you to look at the business plans and executive summaries of the companies submitted to Heartland Angels for review by its Investment Committee.
• Presentations section enables you to look at information about companies that have presented  in the past or will be presenting at a future members meeting.  The information typically available includes many of the following items: executive summaries, business plans, power point slide presentations, and digitally recorded live presentations. 
• Discussion Groups section is designed to deal with companies that Heartland receives for review.  Heartland Advisors also have access to specific discussion groups.
