Heartland Programs
There are three areas of new venture development that require assistance: 1) The education of new investors; 2) the transition of an idea to a business; 3) the development of a “business” team to direct a company’s growth. Heartland has developed programs to provide for each of these needs.
The Education of New Investors
To help our new members become more familiar with both our organization and the investing process, we developed the Fledgling Angel Support Team (FAST) program. Because each individual has different needs that change and evolve, this program’s curriculum uses the “investment life cycle” approach. This provides the language, the tools, and the processes required to be a successful investor.
The Transformation of an Idea to a Business
The transformation of entrepreneurial drive into business wisdom is often left to chance. This is due to the experiential and time limitations of the founders of new enterprises. Heartland has developed a program to remedy these constraints. Heartland’s consulting program, the "Archangels," offers a unique team approach usually seen with venture capital created companies. This approach brings different perspectives and contacts to bear on the multiple interrelated and often concurrent operational and infrastructural problems that challenge and perhaps even frustrate companies in their seed and start-up stages.
The Business Team
As a company builds from the basement stage to the ground floor level, it always requires new talent to fill in the business function gaps. Addressing these gaps usually involves bringing in outside talent on a temporary or permanent basis. In a small company, finding the right people for any task is and will always be time-consuming and risky. It’s a game of numbers. Heartland has developed a database to assist in matching the needs of a company with the individuals who have the education, experience and time to help that company grow.
Community Seminars
Heartland sponsors educational programs on a regular basis throughout the year. These are open to the community. The panel discussions explore current issues in the fields of law, finance and technology, which are designed to be of general interest to entrepreneurs and investors. Future events can be found on the calendar and past events can be found here.
